Touched by Rumi: December 2019

Rumi has the ability to reach people of all backgrounds, ages, religions, and more. His wisdom sparks us to look within and influences us to view ourselves and the world in a different way. In this section of our Monthly Newsletter we ask people to show us how Rumi has affected them and their way of thinking.

What I can say is that I had some exposure to Rumi’s poetry before I met Fariba, and I really liked his poetry very much. It spoke to me, but I didn’t necessarily understand all of it at a deep level. I just liked what he was saying on the surface. And then in large part because I met Fariba, I was interested to know more and understand more. Once I started to take her classes, it was fascinating to me to understand about Mashnawi and that work and to understand that it was really a spiritual path - a guide to a spiritual path. That actually made it even more intriguing to me because once you were explaining all of the concepts beneath the words that I really would never had begun to understand without your explanation, it even made it more interesting to me and was a complement to, I guess, a spiritual path that I was really already on, but it was an affirmation of that path.
