July 2022: The Tied Up Wings

گر دو سه پرنده را بندی بهم

بر زمین مانند محبوس از الم

"If one ties together two or three birds,

they become confined to the earth by their sadness."

Reflection on the Quote:

A message from Dr. Fariba Enteshari, Founder & Executive Director

This verse of Rumi reminds me of our free spirit moving on through life struggling to navigate from birth to death. This could be a straight path between two important points in life on earth. Is this journey ever straight enough to see through the purpose of life?

Flying too close to earthly matters will cloud our vision and create a fireball of problems that can’t be solved with dualism.

This verse may lift our spirits and let us soar to see from above a way out of our troubles. By tying ourself to tradition and ceasing to be innovative we tie our wings, limit ourselves and create more problems. By confining ourselves to short sided goals in an effort to gain the upper hand we lack consideration for the common good.

Turning a blind eye to the well-being of others, to focus only on power maneuvers will create more chaos. It is this kind of thinking that steers our world to its end. Lack of independence causes lack of liberty, lack of freedom causes conflicts leading to fights and eventually wars.

And in wars, we are tied by our sadness like birds of heaven being shackled by their wings here on earth.

So what are these wings that Rumi is talking about?

The wings are the expression of our free innovative ideas shining through the source of unity, with consideration for the human condition.

Our interconnectedness is the precious gift binding us to the field of oneness.

Use force and break enough links in the fibre of this cosmic oneness and see how you have helped to destroy your own existence.

The zeitgeist of our time is pointing to tough problems inviting those who can to bring solutions.

The change to a broken system that keeps following the rule of ‘garbage in and garbage out’ has brought us to the point of destruction we experience today.

We need the actions of many who are connected to the source of oneness to reverse the game of destroying, the only earth we walk on.

What was Rumi’s message:

Rise up like Noah and start a foolish project.

Make it well, make whole.

Build a new era.
