Farsi Fridays: November 18, 2022

Though it is now translated in to hundreds of languages, Rumi’s original work was written in Farsi – including his famous Mathnawi. Each Friday we send out a word or phrase, in Farsi, that can be found in Rumi’s work. You can listen to the pronunciation and learn the meaning of Farsi words that often appear in Rumi's poetry.

Farsi Fridays is an opportunity to learn Rumi's language and better understand his wisdoms.

A parrot is a representative of our spirit. Rumi calls it “طوطی جان” because like our spirit, it is sensitive, beautiful, and free. It represents the innocence in us that can be taken advantage of by the other part of us that wants to use it only for material or monetary gain. Our spirit, like a parrot, has to be free.
