Farsi Fridays: May 27, 2022

Though it is now translated in to hundreds of languages, Rumi’s original work was written in Farsi – including his famous Mathnawi. Each Friday we send out a word or phrase, in Farsi, that can be found in Rumi’s work. You can listen to the pronunciation and learn the meaning of Farsi words that often appear in Rumi's poetry.

Farsi Fridays is an opportunity to learn Rumi's language and better understand his wisdoms.

In Rumi’s poetry, love is the means by which a person becomes more than just a living, breathing body; man is able to transcend this world and become united with the Beloved. Rumi believed that God’s love and presence is found in one’s day to day life. God is the source of all love, just as he is the source of everything, and the goal of mankind is to explore one’s inner self to find a love so strong that it unites one with the Beloved.

“It is the fire of love that the Creator put in the reed.”

‎جوشش عشق است کاندر می فتاد

“It is the fire of love that the Creator put in the Wine!”
