Farsi Fridays: March 3, 2023

Though it is now translated in to hundreds of languages, Rumi’s original work was written in Farsi – including his famous Mathnawi. Each Friday we send out a word or phrase, in Farsi, that can be found in Rumi’s work. You can listen to the pronunciation and learn the meaning of Farsi words that often appear in Rumi's poetry.

Farsi Fridays is an opportunity to learn Rumi's language and better understand his wisdoms.

الست indicates an agreement between GOD and our soul. Before we were born, God asked every soul, “Did I not tell you that ´I Am Your God´?” And we all answered, ““I will always remember that you are my GOD.” Rumi brings up this Quranic concept within his poetry as an indication that we are forgetful of our original agreement. Once we are born, we forget our agreement with God. This why Remembrance is one of the most important concepts in Sufism.
