Farsi Fridays: July 8, 2022

Though it is now translated in to hundreds of languages, Rumi’s original work was written in Farsi – including his famous Mathnawi. Each Friday we send out a word or phrase, in Farsi, that can be found in Rumi’s work. You can listen to the pronunciation and learn the meaning of Farsi words that often appear in Rumi's poetry.

Farsi Fridays is an opportunity to learn Rumi's language and better understand his wisdoms.

The concept of صلح، or peace, can be a rather difficult one to grasp from Rumi’s work. Rumi tells us about the dualities we live with on Earth - the fights between opposites. He believes that we fight because we seek clarification. And that within these fights, we can find true peace. While this may seem counterintuitive, fighting for peace, Rumi’s work teaches us that to become a higher being, it is important that we see through these fights to be able to find the truth that lies within them. And there, the truth we will find is that within these opposites, there is a unity and there is peace. This is no easy task, especially in the world we currently live in that seems so void of peace.
